Glasgow Film Gets Award

A film shot and produced in Glasgow, Scotland, has won the special jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Red Road, which cost just over £1m to make, is about a CCTV operator who sees the city through the security cameras.

Da Vinci Code Soundtrack Upset

There has been a huge uproar between two of the major music labels, Universal Music and Sony BMG, over Sony's release of a CD entitled, "Music Inspired by Da Vinci". Universal claims that Sony is trying to slip under the radar and get some quick sales while the movie is currently flooding the press. Sony deny this, yet the CD was released only this week, on the same day as the official Da Vinci Code Soundtrack.

The Da Vinci Code soundtrack is now available from all good retailers, and has been composed by Oscar winning Hans Zimmer who also worked on Gladiator, The Lion King, Pirates of the Caribbean and Batman Begins.

Sidney Poitier Honoured

CANNES, France (AP) - France gave actor Sidney Poitier its highest arts honour Thursday at the Cannes Film Festival, where the culture minister praised him for tearing down barriers for black actors in Hollywood.

Poitier was named a commander in France's order of arts and letters. Culture Minister Renaud Donnedieu de Vabres told the 79-year-old actor: "You are the champion of equality between men."
